Devan Shepherd - CEO & Chief Technical Officer, XMaLpha
Technologies LLC
Devan Shepherd is the author of Sams Teach Yourself XML in 21
Days, 2/e, ISBN: 0-672-32093-2. He has more than 25 years of progressive experience in the IT industry as a developer, executive, solutions provider, public speaker, and instructor. He runs, as CEO and Chief Technical Officer, XMaLpha Technologies LLC
(http://XMaLpha.com), a successful consulting and technology training practice. XMaLpha has a proven track record of providing leading-edge solutions for public and corporate clients with a focus on XML-powered solutions.
Devan, licensed by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities directorate also holds a full research and faculty position at St. Paul College, where he teaches XML and other Web Development technologies.
Formerly, Devan was the Director of Information Systems for the U.S. National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) at the world headquarters in Minneapolis, MN for five years.
The NMDP is an organization that uses sophisticated computer algorithms to perform complex DNA matching of compatible unrelated bone marrow and stem cell donors with critically ill patients in need of life-saving transplants and other cellular therapies.
Amongst other critical applications, Devan oversaw the design and implementation of large-scale Web solutions that are used by
hundreds of member organization partners participating in life-saving research and treatment of patients through the NMDP.
He has worked extensively in the fields of Health Care, Defense, Banking, Legal and Medico/Legal Litigation Support.
Some of his accomplishments include:

Leading the “think-tank” that designed a shared ATM financial computer network;

Creating the original XMtran language used to interface human and animal laboratory test devices with computer monitoring equipment;

Serving as the North American Data & Computer Automation Consultant to the International Consortium for Research on the Health Effects of Ionizing Radiation, following the Chernobyl reactor disaster;

Accepting the 2000 Smithsonian Award for Computer Innovation in the field of Medicine; and
-
Being recognized by SeyBold in September 2001, as the instructor who obtained the highest tutorial evaluation by attendees.
